For the past 10 years, we have held an annual event including a 5-a-side football tournament and family fun to raise money for economically disadvantaged people in India. To date, this event has helped donate over £70,000. This year alone, we were able to raise £7038 with your generosity.
Currently, these funds go towards these main areas:
1. Reducing poverty through medical and literacy education
- Through our allied charity, Zidni Ilma Trust (ZIT), we support funding to help girls and boys in pursuing their career of choice - including doctors, nurses and engineers.
- In 2024, 664 students have been supported.
- 144 of these students undertook a medical degree.
- Through ZIT, 3 libraries have been opened in disadvantaged areas and running costs are provided.
- Additionally, many women in villages in Baroda don’t have a chance to receive basic education in reading and writing, leaving them to rely on others in important matters. We support their education in reading and writing to help them become more independent.
- Furthermore, 35 students at Unity Primary School in Bhodan received The Hussein Shiraz Scholarship.
2. Providing food packages and supporting medical camps in areas of significant need.
- We provide food packs to families in extremely disadvantaged positions. Each food pack contains high-quality rice, pulses, sugar, wheat (chapatti flour), and corn oil. One food pack costs in the region of £12-£16 and can provide a month's supply per family of basic food.
- In 2024, we have donated 336 food packs.
- We partner Baroda DRs association to provide free diagnosis and medicine for people living in the slums. For most of these individuals, these medical camps are their only opportunity for healthcare. With just 1 ambulance, 1 doctor and 2 nurses, around 300 patients are seen within just 4 hours.
Getting together to play football may seem trivial but your efforts contribute in a big way to making a difference to people's lives.
